What is Long Covid? Over 22 million people in the UK have tested positive for Covid19 since the start of the pandemic These people are at risk of developing Post covid-19 Syndrome also known as long covid. Long covid describes the signs and symptoms that develop during or following an infection consistent with covid-19, which continue for more than 12 weeks and are not explained by an alternative diagnosis. The following are all symptoms of long covid; extreme tiredness (fatigue) shortness of breath chest pain or tightness problems with memory and concentration ("brain fog") difficulty sleeping (insomnia) heart palpitations dizziness pins and needles joint pain depression and anxiety How exercise can help Knowing what to do whilst suffering from Long Covid can be difficult but even light exercise has been shown to improve the strength and efficiency of your muscles involved in breathing, improve your lung function, energy levels, reduce stress and anxiety and reduce your risk of developing other diseases such as chest infections and other cardiovascular disease.
